Pond Water Testing and Improvement

Project Description

Many small lakes (ponds) in Tempe and Phoenix are not properly managed to reduce smell and unsightly water. The EPICS team will use simple tests to identify the problem with these ponds and then will develop low-cost solutions to improve the water quality.​

Teams will start by testing the water quality of the water at the Encanto Park in downtown Phoenix in collaboration with ASU faculty. Once we determine why the water is murky, the team will design options on how to improve the water. Solution could range from purification systems, to using natural systems (plants and other organisms) to improve the water.
