Project description

The goal of this project is to provide FSE 100 students with an opportunity to learn about aerodynamics through wind tunnel testing. The wind tunnel has already been built but needs improvement and or rebuilt. This project will provide activities to allow students to visualize aerodynamic properties and directly interact with the wind tunnel. As of now, the first activity would be to use a fog machine to visualize air flow around objects of differing geometry. The second activity uses a wind turbine to measure the wind speed inside of the tunnel and the power that can be harnessed from that wind. The wind speed and power produced is printed on an LCD screen (in meters per second and milliwatts) while an LED is lit up from the voltage created by the wind turbine’s motor.
