Project Description

The objective of this project is to develop a prototype rover, i.e. a functional and autonomous robot based on a hard real-time system and equipped with multiple sensors. It is designed to first traverse a small room without running into obstacles. The large project will eventually be able to navigate the city of Paris autonomously while upholding the standards and user requirements needed by the CY Paris team.  This base will provide the option for several removable modules. As a starting point, two modules are imagined:

1) A visual module, doing pattern recognition and tracking to help the control base navigate the field recognize life forms in its environment

2) A weather station that will send specific data such as temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure regularly to a server.  As of now it is unknown if we are storing the data on the robot itself or on an external server.  The usage of this data is not well defined yet and we are working with CY to advance this idea.

The robot will be equipped with a mobile antenna allowing the rover to receive simple instructions as well as send telemetry and images to remote operators. The aspect of energy consumption will be a big issue in this project, the rover will have to have low consumption and maximum autonomy.
