Project Description

The Living Lab Project Surabaya Smart City is an innovation laboratory and a platform fostering synergy between Surabaya residents and the city government. It serves as a catalyst for creating a Smart City Ecosystem 5.0, prioritizing citizen-centric innovation, digital transformation, and collaborative problem-solving. Surabaya as the second biggest smart city after Jakarta, already has several desktop/mobile applications to provide services in education, taxation, academic administration, civil registration, public complaints, licensing, and a whistleblowing system; however, their usage and accessibility levels remain low.The project is designed to enable Surabaya’s urban transformation by leveraging local talent, digital tools, and sustainable practices. A key initiative under the Living Lab Project is the Future City Hackathon, a digital innovation competition aimed at identifying and empowering local innovators to address urban challenges and elevate public services. In the long term, the Living Lab Project Surabaya Smart City envisions establishing the Future City Hub. This hub will serve as a meeting space where the Surabaya City Government (as problem owners) can collaborate with startups, academics, and other partners (as problem solvers) to address urban challenges collectively.
