Project Description
The EWB Kenya project aims to design and implement a reliable solar energy solution, serving the community of Guu Mixed Secondary School in rural southwestern Kenya. Due to frequent power outages and unreliable/expensive grid power, students and staff are left without electricity. This interrupts student education, evening study hours, coursework requiring computers and laboratory equipment, and daily administrative operations, and places unpredictable energy costs on a school with a fixed budget. Delivered by EWB Kenya in partnership with Sustainable Resources of Kenya, the project builds on the chapter’s completed solar-powered borehole pump at the same site, which established the community partnership and demonstrated that photovoltaic generation is viable at this location. Furthermore, we plan to design small-scale solutions to pack on travel and implement ourselves.
