Project Description
ScanTaps is a hybrid NFC + QR-based lost-and-found system designed specifically for ASU to make item recovery faster, safer, and more reliable. Each personal item is tagged with a low-cost sticker containing both an NFC chip and QR code, linked securely to the owner’s ASU ID. When a finder scans the tag, they are directed to a private, end-to-end encrypted chat with the owner‚ allowing coordination without sharing personal contact details. If the item is turned in to a campus Lost & Found center, a staff scan-up dates its status and automatically notifies the owner that it’s ready for pickup. By integrating ASU’s existing authentication system for fraud prevention and using durable, inexpensive hardware, ScanTaps aims to deliver a robust, self-reliant, and student-friendly solution to reconnect people with their belongings efficiently.
