Pesisir Lestari focuses on building community-led social enterprises to sustain the conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems. To achieve this, they empower and strengthen the role of local communities in Mangrove protection, which includes rehabilitation (Mangrove Planting) and regular ecosystem health monitoring. The local communities conduct mangrove health monitoring manually every six months. The monitoring includes measurements of the tree, identification of the species, and observation of tree coverage in 20sample plot areas. All data is uploaded into the Monmang app, which is used to generate the MangroveHealth Index (MHI). The MHI can be used to calculate above-ground carbon but cannot yet be used on below-ground carbon. The potential economic value of the Mangrove Ecosystem relies on being able to identify the below-ground carbon. The goal of this project is to streamline the collection of required data to have better visibility on the potential economic values of the Mangrove ecosystem.
