Project Description:
The Bridge2Africa program, in partnership with ASU students, aims to make internet browsing more accessible for blind students. While tools like braille displays and keyboards exist, they are not effective for navigating the web. Partnering with the Prinsh of School for Partially Sighted and Blind inJohannesburg, the team is developing solutions such as braille transcription, displays, screen readers, and anHTML parser to extract web text.
Prototypes using LEDs and solenoids have been built, and future work includes improving the UI, transitioning to Django for cloud access, testing PCB models, and finalizing device housing. The ultimate goal is to give blind students better access to the internet and expand their educational opportunities.
