Project Description:
The Textile Upcycling team is working with Engineers Without Borders Nigeria (EWB), an organization to empower students to tackle real-world problems in the community, along with students at the University of Lagos. In Nigeria, unmanaged textile waste is clogging drainage, sitting in landfills, and causing public health concerns. To start the upcycling process, a collection and management system for current and future waste must be developed. The leading solution for upcycling textiles is a shredder that breaks the material into reusable parts, which we will develop. This semester, the team will focus on the shredder design to ensure compliance with local power and accessibility requirements, while organizing robust collection logistics in the community.
