Project Description
Vietnamese shrimp farmers face significant challenges with unexpected shrimp die-offs due to deteriorating water quality, which often goes undetected until it is too late. Monitoring key water quality metrics like pH, dissolved oxygen, and nitrogenous compounds is crucial for the health and sustainability of their shrimp farms. However, existing solutions are either too expensive or inaccessible for many small-scale farmers.
To address this issue, our team is developing a mobile application that integrates with affordable Arduino-based sensors. This app will enable shrimp farmers to monitor water quality in real-time, providing early alerts when conditions decline, allowing them to take action before significant losses occur. Our community partner, Alex Downs, has been instrumental in guiding us through the local challenges faced by shrimp farmers, ensuring that the solution is practical and impactful for the community. By creating this tool, we aim to reduce shrimp mortality, increase farmer yields, and contribute to more sustainable shrimp farming practices in Vietnam
