The community needs motivating this project have been brought up by Dr. Heather Ross, an active member of the Maricopa County community advocating pool safety measures to address preventable drownings especially in the Greater Phoenix area. Dr. Ross has experience identifying and working on a variety of pressing problems of her community as she is a clinical assistant professor at the School for the Future of Innovation in Society at Arizona State University and works specifically with the College of Nursing and Health Innovation as well as the Global Security Initiative on a regular basis. These three academic centers have a myriad of tools, technologies, systems, and most importantly human resources that are accessible to Dr. Ross for not only the design of a solution to the problem of preventable drownings for her community, but also for the modification and scaling of that solution to other communities.
